This is not the first time that replica Tag Heuer has teamed up with Nintendo to launch a special (and limited) edition of a watch from the brand. In 2021 already a limited edition of a “Super Mario” connected watch was available for sale. This time, two Formula 1 Caliber 16 mechanical chronographs are on offer and are personalized in the colors of the famous Mario Kart video game.
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart limited edition offers a 44 mm diameter steel case and various reminders of the Nintendo kart game. The watch features a racetrack-inspired black and charcoal checkerboard pattern, custom asphalt textured subdials with the image of Mario on his kart appearing in the permanent seconds indicator at 9 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock that will regularly alternate elements of Mario Kart in place of the date number (star, red shell, etc.).
And that’s not all. The Mario Kart logo is engraved on the polished black ceramic bezel of the tachymeter and the pusher at 2 o’clock and the crown are surrounded by an iconic red lacquer. Mario’s M symbol is engraved on the crown while the Mario Kart logo appears on the dedicated screw-down case back.
The watch is water resistant to 200 meters and equipped with an in-house Caliber 16 giving it 42 hours of power reserve. This limited edition of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 chronograph is limited to 3,000 pieces and priced at €4,150.
At the same time, an even more exclusive watch is being offered. We’re talking about fine watchmaking here with the TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart tourbillon chronograph. This watch is made from grade 5 titanium, with a 45 mm diameter case that combines satin and polished finishes. Here again the references to Mario Kart are numerous.
In addition to the references of the first chronograph, the rimmed tourbillon cage of Super LumiNova is completely redesigned to feature Mario in his kart, the blue shell and the missile moving in rhythm with the complication. The icing on the cake is that the watch adopts a Manufacture Caliber Heuer 02T COSC caliber, giving it a 65-hour power reserve.
